How We Began
AWAKE began as a conversation between a female lawyer, a female doctor, and a female social worker. They discussed how difficult it is to meet women from different professions, and how valuable those relationships can be. Upon further research, the three discovered there was no organization in their community dedicated to bringing women together across professions. AWAKE was born to meet this need. Not long after, the founding board members got busy bringing their vision to life.
AWAKE, the Alliance of Women Achieving Knowledge and Excellence, was formed as a Washington Non-Profit Corporation in August of 2014. AWAKE’s inaugural event was held in September 2014, with an overwhelming show of support for the new organization from women of diverse professional backgrounds.
The AWAKE board consists of dynamic upcoming women of the community who are passionate about building a platform for women across professions to come together.
